May is the unofficial start of festival season in So Cal. It’s also the month we all start wondering what we’re going to do to make Mother’s Day extra special for mom.

With the help of Taylor Morrison Southern California, you’ve got this. Here is a not-to-be-missed May event and a fabulous idea for Mother’s Day that isn’t just another champagne brunch!

The Sweetest Thing You’ll do all Month

  • California Strawberry Festival
  • May 18-19 from 10:00 am to 6:30 pm
  • 3250 South Rose Avenue, Oxnard, CA

The 36th Annual California Strawberry Festival is a So Cal tradition that you won’t want to miss. From live music to nearly 200 talented arts and crafts vendors and a special kids’ zone with inflatables and carnival rides, there’s something for everyone.

Build your own strawberry shortcake for just five bucks in the Strawberry Shortcake Tent or shop delicious eats from dozens of food booths.

From eating contests to specialty cook-offs to the Strawberry Baby Fashion Show, there’s something to discover at every turn.

Treat Mom to a Brunch-Free Mother’s Day

Brunch is great. Who doesn’t love brunch? Everyone loves brunch.
So why are we suggesting you do something other than brunch for Mother’s Day?

The answer is simple. Most popular Mother’s Day brunch spots turn into an absolute zoo on the big day – and even if you get a table, you spend half the event fighting the crowds for another glass of cheap pink bubbly.

Take your mom to brunch some other weekend – for Mother’s Day, let’s do something different. A gourmet picnic.

You might not know this, but a lot more upscale restaurants do take-away than you might think. It’s not just fast food or your local deli that lets you get your food “to go.”

Here are a few tasty options near our So Cal new home communities and fun ideas to set up your blanket and picnic basket:

Vintage at Old Town Tustin and Muse at Cadence Park

Zov’s in both Tustin and Irvine whip up beautiful dishes meant to be enjoyed elsewhere. Check out Santiago Oaks Regional Park or Irvine Regional Park to find a beautiful spot in the shade to spend quality time munching with mom.

Avery at the Grove

Avery at the Grove in Santa Ana

Blackmarket Bakery in the Santora Building in Santa Ana is an excellent choice if mom’s idea of a decadent Mother’s Day picnic involves a bevvy of extravagant desserts. Blackmarket’s gourmet sandwiches are awfully good, too. Enjoy both at Santiago Park Nature Reserve.

Westridge at Sycamore Hills and Meadowood at Park Place

Plan a day of sushi in the park with incredible take-away from Ken’s Japanese Restaurant in Rancho Cucamonga. Set up by the lake at Cucamonga-Guasti Regional Park and don’t forget your chopsticks.
